What Smart10 wants YOU to know about the Employment Market during the pandemic….

Recruitment

June 28, 2020

As have all companies, we have been closely monitoring the government guidance and updates regarding the current pandemic. As recruiters we have felt a huge impact over the past few months.

Working from home, not being able to visit out clients or have face to face registrations with our candidates has been tough – like everything else it has been an adjustment, but one that we have adapted to as I’m sure have many other people and businesses alike.

What we have found during this time is that we have seen some positives too…. It has given us more time to engage with people, hear of their situations, offer support and listen to their concerns during these un-certain times– helping them to decide what it is that they are looking for, finding ways that we can help them to make the most of their job search and more recently, placing un-employed professionals back into employment!

But as things start to move forward and the prospect of life getting back to some sort of normality, we sat down with a few of our consultants (virtually, of course!) to ask them –

‘What advice would you give to candidates that are currently searching for a new position right now?’

‘How/What is it that YOU as a consultant are doing differently to help your candidates secure work?’

And I think what most people would are eager to know……

‘How do you feel the job market is at present and how is it changing?’

Keep positive!

The last few weeks have seen positive activity within the Job Market. Although we are far from normal within our own HQ, we have managed to successfully place both temporary and permanent candidates into new employment opportunities throughout June (certainly an increase in placements compared to those confirmed in April and May!).

Utilise your time wisely, keep positive and be pro-active…Improve your CV, update your Linked In profile and keep in touch with your local Recruitment Agency. If you are out of work, remember to take some time to enjoy yourself… You could soon find yourself working again full time!

‘How/What is it that YOU as a consultant are doing differently to help your candidates secure work?’

We are speaking to candidates each and everyday offering free support with CV advice, Interviewing tips, furlough guidance and so much more. We have utilised our time wisely in recent months and we continue to build fantastic relationships with all those we support daily.

‘How do you feel the job market is at present and how is it changing?’

It’s still early to tell what the long-term effects will have, however in recent weeks companies are talking more, recruiting for urgent positions and making plans to return to work. Everything is changing weekly, however for us, the past month or so has shown some positivity.

Let’s continue to think we are over the worst and there is light at the end of the tunnel in the Employment Market within Hertfordshire.

Our busiest sectors are changing!

To be positive!

It is a client driven market at present (times have changed this Summer), so think about what makes you stand out over others that will be applying for the same roles. Make sure you are amending your CV appropriately to the roles you are applying for. Be available to speak and flexible on interviews, as jobs are being filled quicker than normal.

‘How/What is it that YOU as a consultant are doing differently to help your candidates secure work?’

I am being honest with candidates about the current market and employment situation. Also, being proactive and contacting businesses and clients daily to discuss the talented people we are supporting with their career search at present. Businesses are starting to talk more and we are ready to listen and help!

‘How do you feel the job market is at present and how is it changing?’

There are obviously more candidates than there were vacancies in June, however there has been an increase in high-end positions in recent weeks, such as; IT / accountancy jobs and warehouse. However there is no big trend at present and things are changing weekly, for which we are adapting to!

Stay positive – the market is still slower than usual, but it is certainly going in the right direction and we have seen an increase in job opportunities coming in over the last few weeks. Its slow steps and anything can change, but hopefully this is a good sign!

‘How/What is it that YOU as a consultant are doing differently to help your candidates secure work?’

I am making sure that I am more proactive with sending candidates details out to prospective clients rather than waiting for jobs to come in – sometimes you have to put yourself out there and we are doing this for as many talented professionals as we can!

‘How do you feel the job market is at present and how is it changing?’

We have seen job opportunities slowly increasing and more recently, a few new sales vacancies come our way which is the first time in a couple of months!

So, as we move towards the reopening of offices, retail, hospitality, leisure and events we want this to be a reminder – THINGS ARE CHANGING!

Although we do not know how long the impact will last and what the next few months will bring within the world of recruitment, we do know this….

Recruitment and Job Searching, it doesn’t have to stop! We as recruiters will always be here to help and we are a resilient group of professionals who will do everything in our control to make a difference to everyone we support – both Companies and Candidates!
